Specifications & Compliance
Fire Performance
UNE-EN 13501-1:2019 Classification: B-s1, d0
We carry preserved pole and flat moss products that are tested and certified to UNE-EN 13501-1:2019, the European fire safety standard, by our supplier. This includes evaluation for flame spread, smoke production, and flaming droplets.
-
B = Very limited contribution to fire
-
s1 = Minimal smoke production (best category)
-
d0 = No flaming droplets or particles
⚠️ Important: Certification applies only to moss materials adhered with approved fire-safe adhesives on inert substrates. Design teams should coordinate with us if flame-rated assembly is required. May support fire strategy when specified as part of a rated assembly; verification with AHJ required.
Material Safety
-
Preserved using non-toxic, glycerin-based solutions
-
Free of heavy metals and hazardous solvents
-
No active plant material, no allergens, mold, or microbial growth
-
VOC documentation available on request; project teams to confirm against WELL v2 requirements.
Acoustic Contribution
Preserved moss has natural sound-dampening properties due to its porous structure and variable density.
-
Suitable for improving reverberation in enclosed spaces
-
Not a substitute for engineered acoustic assemblies
Moss may be used in combination with absorptive cores or acoustic-rated substrates for enhanced performance.
Environmental Conditions
Preserved moss is stabilized and does not grow or require light. Its longevity depends on environmental consistency.
Ideal Conditions:
-
Relative humidity: 40–60%
-
Temperature: 18–24°C (65–75°F)
-
Low to medium exposure to airflow and direct sunlight
Avoid installations in areas with HVAC vents, direct sun, exterior exposure, or frequent physical contact.
